Is it safe to start believing in this team again?

Holy cow!  3 game win streak.  Are the Knicks actually turning this season around?  My brain says “Be careful, you’ve been down this road before.”  But, my heart resoundingly exclaims, “We’re going to make a run for the playoffs!!!”

My favorite quote from the postgame press conference last night:

“David, he had a big block at the end,” D’Antoni said, adding with a chuckle, “I don’t think I’ve ever said that since I’ve been here.”

Amen, Mike D.

Even ESPN is jumping back on the Knicks bandwagon.  There is this untold story on TrueHoop about the Knicks players bonding on the road during an unplanned search for a decent Thanksgiving dinner.  Chris Duhon recounts that in his two years the team never did anything like this.  Never?!  Geesh.

And, this from Chris Sheridan, who sees the 8th playoff spot well within the realm of possibility with the rest of the East sputtering.

Finally, the Milwaukee Brandon Jennings have lost 7 of 8.  The savior-that-wasn’t is coming back down to earth a bit, shooting dreadfully (under 35%) in 7 of his last 8 games.  Seems opponents are figuring Jennings out a little bit.

Additionally, props to Joakim Noah for having the cajones to let shimmy shaking Lebron know that he’s being a bitch (according to Ric Bucher) for his lame antics.  Seriously.  Does it seem like Lebron’s head is swelling beyond repair?  Does he really need to be doing these Al Harrington / Mark Jackson antics?  Just seems like he’s all about putting on a show these days, and for me, his likability has been tanking.

It’s nights like this when I really wonder why I bother to watch

The Lakers are totally outclassing the Knicks which is to be expected, but of course I was hoping we’d be at least a little bit competitive.  I guess we were until the last few minutes of the 2nd quarter.  But, watching games like this makes it so clear how little fully developed talent the Knicks have.  Bryant, Gasol, Bynum, and Odom are miles better than anyone we have to root for.

As I write this, it’s the beginning of the 4th quarter and the Lakers are winning the rebounding battle 52-27 with a 20 point lead.

Some observations from the game:

  • Lee doesn’t have a prayer against Gasol or Bynum.  It’s not even fair.
  • Then again, as soon as Eddy Curry was on the court the Lakers made sure to run every single play for Bynum who subsequently destroyed Curry.
  • Odom just tackled Robinson breaking out (4th quarter).  Jeffries is the only guy to at least say something to Odom and Bryant.  Harrington is on the court.  But, he doesn’t bother.
  • My god, is Wilson Chandler out of sync with his shot in this game.  Playing some nice D tonight, but he can’t make anything.
  • Gallo is really out of the flow on offense.  But then again, the only offensive play we seem to run is the weave, and the Duhon pick and roll, both plays leaving Gallo out on the wing for a kick out that rarely appears.  Can’t Gallo see a little more of the ball earlier in the shot clock?
  • Duhon is dreadful, of course.  There have been a few decent pick and rolls, but that’s it.  He brings nothing else to the offense.  He’s being given the open shot and can’t hit.  He can’t even do anything against Derek Fisher.  Is Toney Douglas really going to hurt the team being out there instead of Duhon?
  • Yay! A Jordan Hill sighting.  Nice pick and roll dunk with Nate.

Wow.  11-0 run.  Still down by 14, but call it the Jordan Hill factor!  Or not.  He’s actually playing pretty well.  Being aggresive, taking advantage of his time on the court.  Anyway, Bryant, Artest and Bynum are back on the court.  I suspect I should go finish doing my dishes now and get ready for bed.

Update: Lakers win 100-90.  Nice effort by the kids to claw back into the game and make it interesting enough for me not to go to sleep.  Some promising signs from Hill.  Gallo looks more comfortable with guys like Hill and Douglas out there, which is fine since all the veterans will be gone next year anyway.  Nate is showing some flashes of getting back to last year’s form.  But, anyway, the Knicks were really done in during the 3rd quarter when the Lakers ran away with it on a 17-0 run.  Disappointing way for the starters to come out after halftime.
